Shishu Mandir is a registered non-governmental organisation founded in 1983 to provide free and holistic education to children from impoverished backgrounds, with an emphasis on educating the girl child. We are a secular organisation with no religious affiliation.

Goal
Central to our activities is our school, run as a free English-medium school. We believe that education can bring change. But for our children to truly benefit from it, we have worked to ensure that they have access to education beyond school, until they are employable. It is equally important for the families of these children to recognise the importance of education. Several of our programmes have arisen from the real need to support entire families and the wider community to enable a collective progression to a life of dignity. All our programmes are offered free of cost to the children and the community.
Our area of work spans 20 villages in the KR Puram neighbourhood in Bangalore East. The population is close to 100,000 with about 60 percent living below the poverty line (defined as an income of Rs 1,200 per person per month). As of 2023, we are supporting 4,000 families and 2,518 individuals through one of our various programmes.
